How audio can boost your 3D experience:
With thousands of 3D projects published on Oarbt, we analyzed the data on user behavior in the top 100 best performing 3D projects and discovered some fascinating trends on how audio impacts audience engagement. To analyze visitor behavior, we examined views, sessions, engaged sessions, visitors, and returning visitors. Overall, the results for 3D projects published with audio are impressive: the average views per 3D project were 45% higher for those with audio, the average return rate per 3D project was 10% higher and the average engaged sessions per 3D project were 2x for those with audio.
1. Audio can increase total views by 45%
For each 3D project, we count views as each time a published 3D project is opened by a viewer on any device. On average, projects with audio have a 45% higher rate of views than projects without audio.
Case study: With a vibrant selection of portraits, artist and creator launched a studio exhibition with a scene of mellow hip-hop jazz. You’ll also recognize popular film references to Love and Basketball, and the infamous confused Nick Young meme.
2. Projects with audio have 2x more engaged sessions
Engaged sessions are the defined as each occurrence of a visitor interacting in a published 3D project. Listening to relaxing music, your favorite song, or hearing the voiceover of the project curator can help build a deeper connection to the visual content on display. So it’s no surprise that projects with audio have 2x the average engaged sessions per project compared to projects without audio. Of the total engaged sessions per project, those with scenic music or an audio tour have a 105.36% higher rate of engagement.

3. Visitors are 29% more active, had 16.09% more sessions in 3D published projects.
Adding music or an audio tour to your 3D project creates a multisensory experience that is more immersive and well-rounded. In comparing the engaged behavior of visitors in 3D published projects between those with sound and without, we found an impressive difference in activity by visitors. On average, visitors were 29% more active in navigating and interacting with the 3D projects and 16.09% more likely to return for additional sessions.
The No More Litter Campaign Project was launched as a school project to raise awareness about better ways of recycling and waste management to avoid litter. The exhibition had a fun take with the song created by one of the students explaining how to protect the environment by reducing litter.
5. 3D projects with audio have a 10% higher return rate
Our research shows that on average, 3D projects with audio are more enjoyable for viewers which makes them more likely to return. Adding a soundtrack or a voiceover is a great way to maximize your audience’s attention and minimize your cost of acquisition. Projects with audio had a higher return rate at 40%, while those without have 33% so you’ll be optimizing results by just including engaging sounds.

Choosing audio for your 3D project
There are a variety of ways to build your 3D experience with audio - whether that’s adding music to complement the tone of the 3D experience or your very own audio tour to greeting visitors to guide them through the display. Here are some tips on making the best choice:
Tip 1: A fast tempo can add energy to the experience your visitors if that’s what you’re going for. You can try slower music if you want visitors to spend more time in the music.
Tip 2: The minor ‘tonal system’ or ‘mode’ when combined with a slow tempo increases sales
Tip 3: Select the music genre that’s most relevant to your audience to add delight to the experience. A familiar favorite tune or melody can surprise your visitors and encourage them to stay longer.
Try audio in your 3D projects
It’s clear that adding audio to your 3D project can increase your engaged sessions and views per session as visitors spend more time in the 3D project, interact more and return more often.
Audio can greatly impact your audience by creating ease for your visitors and optimizing the time spent looking at products within your retail store. The selection of music for your demographic, can add personality to reinforce your creative vision, increases resonance and product sales.
The options are endless, we invite you to try for yourself! You can upload audio to any 3D project, and monitor the performance of your 3D projects in your Insights dashboard.
